Foundation Garments are Out — Shapewear is In
May 6th, 2008
Judie got inspired the other day and went to Nordstrom to get her girls measured. After almost three hours, she had a new bra size and new bras. Who knew? The girl is now a 32 D. It seems like only yesterday she was a 34 B. She has been wearing the wrong bra size for months, maybe years. She dropped a bundle on new bras and looks, well, very uplifted. She is now moving onto shapewear products. The whole world has changed since lycra was invented, and it’s time we all got on the bandwagon. According to author Charla Krupp of “How Not to Look Old,” all the Hollywood actresses are into shapewear and that’s why they look so good on the Red Carpet. We are working on a future column about shapewear so send us your suggestions and your favorites. So far we are looking at Spanx, Sassybax, Lipoinabox and Bare Neccesities.

How do you find the right person to fit you for a bra? What questions do you ask?

Thank you for being on KOSI this morning and the great tips. I hope I am one of the people that get a copy of your book.
I am a 46 year old mom of 2 and am feeling very old lately. The shapeware has been in the back of my mind but I keep thinking of my mothers girdels that she used to ware. I have also noticed that the girls are sagging and I do not like it.
Thank you

Carla,
Nordstrom has fitters in their lingerie department as do good lingerie stores. Dillard’s and Macy’s have bra fitting events, in fact, Macy’s in Cherry Creek Mall has one happening any day now, you may want to call them. We think it was the Wacoal expert that was going to be at their store. We prefer when the fitter is not focused on one brand, but shows you a multitude of styles. Getting fitted for a bra is like buying jeans, it’s going to take some time. Good luck!
Please email us at stylematters@comcast.net with your mailing address so we can mail you a copy of our book as our Mother’s Day gift to you.

Thank you for your help and your time on KOSI. I went and found a new bra and love it (I bought three for right now). I do feel much better having the girls put (close to) where they are suppose to be. It took about eight different bras but the sales lady and I finally found the perfect fit.
My daughter came home from college and noticed right away that I had a new bra on. I thought, how SAD, that I looked that bad; for how long?.
Now I need to find good shape are garment. I am pear shaped and wish there was an easy fix. Love instant gratification, can you tell?

Evelinda carries junk in her trunk . . . shapewear is great! We are presently working on a column to cover all the ins and outs of shapewear, but until then, go to a department store or lingerie store and buy the kind that goes waist to mid-thigh. You will be smooth baby smooth! By the way, all of the starlets (even the zeros) wear them, so why shouldn’t we. Judie is convinced that shapewear is worth every penny and loves the instant gratification!
