Flabby Arms
May 16th, 2008
Memo to designers and Goldie Hawn: After a certain age we all look better wearing sleeves, whether the sleeves are short and tight, voluminous, 3/4, etc., it doesn’t matter. Sleeves create a leaner, flabby-free look. Whatever you do, don’t tell us to go to the gym; we are not that motivated and even with Madonna arms at a certain age spaghetti straps are ridiculous. The problem is trying to find a fashionable summer dress with sleeves; you’ll have a better chance of winning the lottery than finding this dress. We know, we are in year 3 of the hunt. We have found 1 or 2, but not the closet-full that we want.
Last week your intrepid reporters were shopping in Triage (Writer’s Square) where the wonderful owner David tells us to forget about our arms, after all, European women go sleeveless for life and don’t care (they also don’t care about their crooked, yellow teeth). But we do realize that he is right, clothes are how you wear them and with confidence it can work. European women are more forgiving about aging and it’s time we American women stop being so hard on ourselves. We are working on the forgiving part, so if you do see the perfect dresses, do contact us immediately!
