The rebirth of Southglenn Mall
September 8th, 2009Stopped by to see the new Southglenn shopping center, now called The Streets of Southglenn. (www.shopsouthglenn.com). It looks a bit like Belmar, Southlands mall, and Stapleton’s East 29th Town Center. It’s an ersatz “village” that’s trying to recreate the main streets that were once so prevalent in upscale American towns. Whatever. It’s not worth a visit yet. Too many empty store fronts and/or not enough merchandise yet. Ultimately these boutiques will be worth a visit:
Sole Food: Eco-friendly, Euro comfort style shoes. Small inventory, some accessories
Chrysalis: Women’s clothing store; all “green” lines, some very cute dresses.
Iresistibles: The cute top and jean boutique used to be located in Castle Rock. Look for its write-up in our book: http://stylematters.us/the-book/
Andrew’s Jewelers: Semi precious and precious jewelry, nothing exciting; classic and basic styles.
Kismet: This is the newest branch of Kismet, located in the Highlands. Again, we have a great writeup about this funky jewelry and accessories store in our book. http://stylematters.us/the-book/ Definitely worth a visit.
Sous le Lit: Congratulations to this shoe store whose name is French for “under the bed.” We first discovered this adorable shoe and handbag store at its Main Street, Littleton, location. Now there are three with the addition of a store at 1550 Platte and the latest branch at Southglenn. We love to hear about boutiques that are expanding. Congrats. The store at Southglenn was low on inventory. Deliberate or just a grand opening issue?
Bottom Line:
Have you noticed that boutiques and department stores are stocking less merchandise? It’s not just your imagination. Several owners have told us this is in response to the poor economy. They don’t want to be caught with lots of unsold inventory like they were last year.
